Neoplatonism and Nature, Studies in Plotinus' Enneads, International Society for Neoplatonic Studies, Michael F. Wagner Editor, 8, State University of New York Press, 2002. | This book advances an understanding of Plotinus' views on the natural cosmos and their relevance to natural philosophy and the development of science. The contributors confront issues concerning the presence of scientific principles and conceptions in Plotinus's writing, and discuss the degree to which Plotinus' views and methodologies incorporate aspects of how modern thinkers interpret science as well as areas currently thought of as physics and biology. The essays recognize and embrace the richness, subtlety, and complexity of Plotinus' Neoplatonism as expressed in his Enneads, even while illustrating its pertinence to natural philosophy and the historical development of scientific thinking.

Neoplatonism and Indian Philosophy, International Society for Neoplatonic Studies, Paulos Mar Gregorios Editor, 9, State University of New York Press, 2002. | The essays in this book show the actual similarities in themes or philosophical systems that exist between certain Western Neoplatonic writers and some major Hindu philosophers and deals with the arguments, pro and con, of the case for an Indian source for the thought of Plotinus. Some of the essays are critical studies involving the comparison of technical terms and linguistic considerations, whereas others are only general comparison. An exercise in comparative philosophy, this book constitutes a de facto East-West philosophical dialogue. It concludes with an extensive critical essay on the role of ritual, myth, and magic in Neoplatonism, an ancillary topic relevant to a comparison of Eastern and Western religious thought.

Neoplatonism and Contemporary Thought, Part I, International Society for Neoplatonic Studies, R. Baine Harris Editor, 10, State University of New York Press, 2002.

Neoplatonism and Contemporary Thought, Part II, International Society for Neoplatonic Studies, R. Baine Harris Editor, 11, State University of New York Press, 2002.

Neoplatonism and Western Aesthetics, International Society for Neoplatonic Studies, Aphrodite Alexandrakis, Editor, Nicholas J. Moutafakis Associate Editor, 12, State University of New York Press, 2002. | Grouped together in four broad headings, the essays in this book offer a well-balanced examination of both Neoplatonic aesthetics and its significance in Western art. The concept of "beautiful" and its influence on Christian thinkers is addressed in the works of various Neoplatonists from Plotinus to Proclus. The book also shows how historically the Neoplatonic concept of beauty is investigated and utilized by certain renowned artists and architects. Also discussed is the influence of Neoplatonism in contemporary discussions involving the creative process and the aesthetic experience generally. Furthermore, the concept of the beautiful plays a central role in discussions involving processes governing the generation of the world in Plotinus' works.
